Grosskopf Out of 97th District Race

Dennis Grosskopf, who was slated to face Plainfield businessman Mark Batinick in November, has confirmed he will not run for the 97th District state representative seat, according to the Herald-News.

Grosskopf, a teacher in the Minooka High School District and teacher's union president, told the paper that due to his current roles, he doesn't have the time necessary to devote to the campaign. He also serves as treasurer of the Democratic Organization of Troy Township.

Assistant Will County State's Attorney Moira Dunn is reportedly in the running to replace Grosskopf on the ballot.

Dunn, who lost the March primary for Will County second subcircuit judge, wouldn't confirm or deny that she will be on the November ballot. Her name was listed as a Democratic candidate on a flier for a May 28 meet and greet in Springfield.

After Grosskopf officially withdraws from the race, the Will and Kendall County Democratic organizations will form a committee to formally choose a replacement.

State Rep. Tom Cross (R-Oswego) currently represents the 97th District, but is not seeking re-election and is instead running against Sen. Mike Frerichs (D-Champaign) for state treasurer.

Whoever replaces Grosskopf will run against Batinick, who defeated fellow Republicans Amanda Mancke and Shorewood Mayor Rick Chapman in the March primary.
