Will County Posts Low Voter Turnout
The majority of registered voters didn't make it to the polls on March 18.
With important state- and county-wide offices up for grabs, just more than 15 percent of Will County's registered voters turned out at the polls Tuesday.
According to the Will County Clerk's office, 59,796 of the county's 389,369 registered voters actually cast a ballot in the primary.
Some races showed that every vote really does count, such as the Republican Will County Sheriff contest. Current Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas had a 223-vote lead over Nick Ficarello when all precincts were tallied late Tuesday.
Results won't be finalized until validation and counting of provisional and grace period ballots is completed within 14 days after the election, and a canvass has been completed.
Voter turnout was slightly higher in the March 2012 primary — held during a presidential election year — at about 20 percent. Turnout for the November 2012 election was more than 70 percent.
