What's Your Favorite Plainfield Non-Profit?

Interested in volunteering, giving or interning with a great local charity? GreatNonprofits.org released today its first consolidated list of user-reviewed non-profits in Plainfield, which Patch readers can use to discover top-rated charities to give or work with on issues they care about.

“Local giving and volunteering has exploded in recent years,” says Perla Ni, the CEO of GreatNonprofits, which published the list. GreatNonprofits is the leading site for non-profit reviews by volunteers, donors, and clients alike. “Like Shop local, eat local, people now want to get involved with local nonprofits. People are increasingly interested in making meaningful connections in their own neighborhoods and communities.”

Check out this list to find a great non-profit around Plainfield.

This list only contains charities within five miles of Plainfield, but you can expand it to include non-profits up to 50 miles away, or you can sort through them by issue and user rating. If your favorite charity is missing from the list, you can create a page for it on GreatNonprofits.org. Then you can write and post a review about it, helping others discover the organization and contribute to this great community resource.  Not only does this provide useful feedback for non-profits, which they can use for self-assessment and improvement, but it serves as compelling evidence about their work, which they can show to donors.

It is a great way to find out about volunteer, internship, and job opportunities at local charities, as well as a way for nonprofit leaders to collect and publicize the experiences of their volunteers, donors, and clients.

This poster is the marketing manager for GreatNonprofits, and this post is a retread of similar ones she has put up all over the country.
The organization she touts is less than worthless as far as determining which charities are worthwhile, use their donations for the purpose intended and their ratings are meaningless. If you want to know if a particular charity does what it says it will with your donation, the single most reputable source is www.charitywatch.org. Second place is a tie between your local Better Business Bureau and each state's attorney general office. I'm not saying the charities listed on the link in this article are bad. Some of them may be amongst the very best, however, this organization is a for-profit business using shady tactics to market itself as something it is not. For example, getting their paid marketing manager to write blogs for local Patches. Free advertising for them, misleading information for readers.

You are 100% correct. Cutting 4 worker's hours is disgusting and disgraceful. I've been talking toRead More alot of people around the schools and sports fields at my childrens activies. Hurtado and Peck are quickly becoming the most hated people of Plainfield; with Booth, Steinys and Silotsky right behind them. They are spending tax payer money extravagantly on their salaries, cars, and God knows what else at the PPD. You've brought shame to yourselves, your families and your friends. If you 5 aren't ashamed of yourselves then you are just plain evil and selfish and deserve the reprecussions coming your way very soon.

I am just wondering how long this suspense filled soap opera will continue? Bottom line: HurtadoRead More knew his buddy needed a job...so; he and his majority board members made a mockery of local government due process and gave Mr. Peck a job, even though Hurtado voted with the past board to unanimously select an Exec…who is still under a contract. And then decided there was a need to pay a board secretary (who jumped out of the frying pan…smart move) and then appointed someone without pay. And of course there is a need to have a paid political hack to help publicly spin the board’s craziness via press releases.

I have always been a patron of the Park District and want to know which of my programs your skimming off to pay yourself and Mr. Booth. 2. "Our staff deserves a lot of credit for this budget,” Peck said, “as their efforts to hold the line wherever possible have led to our success on behalf of District residents." Is reducing hours of employees the way you reward your staff now? I'm very upset that you honestly thought that cutting loyal employees hours instead of offering benefits was a good idea. I have a better one, cut the hours of Mr. Booth who has an unnecessary job and use his pay and salaries to offset the 4 loyal part-time workers. I will not hold my breath for your answers since answering questions to the people who pay your salary isn't on your to do list
