Gather your friends, co-workers and family members and head to Nevin’s Brewing Company in Plainfield on Saturday, March 2, 2013 from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. for a night of food, drinks, raffles, auctions, music, dancing and fun at the Birdies for Babies Gala. The evening, hosted by Birdies for Babies founders Todd and Melissa Trader, will raise funds for one couple struggling with infertility.

Founded in 2004, Birdies for Babies Golf Outing is intended to help couples who have limited funds or little to no insurance coverage to pay for infertility treatments. Oak Park residents, Denise and Hernan Espinosa approached the Traders in 2012 for help after struggling over the past several years to conceive.

This is the first year for the Gala.

“A couple of years ago we learned about the Birdies for Babies Golf Outing through our infertility doctor and we wanted to get involved. Although we are not the recipients of the golf outing this year we are so grateful they chose to help us through the Gala at Nevin’s Brewing Company,” says Denise Espinosa.

Todd and Melissa Trader, residents of Oswego, know all too well how difficult infertility can be. In the hope of starting a family, they spent over $150,000 in out of pocket expenses to achieve their dream. Their daughter Jordan was born in 2006 after the couple’s sixth IVF attempt and son Breckin was conceived naturally in 2009.

“We feel very blessed to have two beautiful children and Birdies for Babies is our way to give back and see other couples achieve their dreams of becoming a family.  The golf outings have been a huge success and we wanted to try something in addition to the golf outing this year, so Denise and Hernan approached us with the idea of doing a gala.  We hope this is something that will be just as successful and we can continue to do the gala on an annual basis,” said Todd Trader.

Nine children have been born to the Birdies for Babies family in total. In 2012, McKenna and Kailey Rice and Avery and Hannah Davis were born to Birdies for Babies recipients Brooke and Travis Rice (2011) and Katie and Pat Davis (2010). Jake and Jenae Waldron, the 2012 recipients are expecting their first child next month.

According to the Espinosas, the process isn’t just about the money. “Going through infertility is like being on a rollercoaster. Emotionally, financially and physically it takes a toll.  Aside from the financial support, knowing that a there is an emotional support system through Birdies for Babies is just an added benefit.”

Tickets for the event on March 2, 2013 are $75 each. The cost includes food, open bar and music. A variety of raffle prizes and silent auction items will also be up for grabs.
