On Sunday, December 9 at 3 p.m. the Plainfield Congregational United Church of Christ, 24020 Fraser Road (corner of Fraser Road and Route 59), is offering an interfaith Blue Christmas Worship Service.
This service honors the pain of loss that many people feel during the holidays but seldom fully acknowledge amidst cheerful carols and holiday festivities.
Not only is the loss of a loved one real, but many, many people are also feeling very real traumatic loss in the form of unemployment, foreclosure, divorce, or unstable financial security.
This worship service reaches out to everyone - no matter which faith - to reassure God's ever-present comfort, healing and love. This service of comfort and healing will include quiet music, scripture, and a time for prayer open to the entire community.
Following worship, attendees are invited to remain for a time of conversation and light refreshments.
Articles that offer ideas to help cope with the holidays will be available. This time of hope is a gift from the Stephen Ministers of Plainfield Congregational United Church of Christ and is open to all who are hurting and in need of comfort.
Rev. Marie Paterik and the congregation's Stephen Ministers will be available for individual prayer and conversation after the service. Visit the congregation's website at www.plainfielducc.org or call 815-436-9441 for further information.
