Route 66 Tour - Plainfield Park District

John Weiss, award-winning Route 66 author, will be our tour guide as we cruise Route 66. Our first stop is Milltown Market in Wilmington, where we will be greeted with coffee and donuts – a unique shopping experience located inside a restored 1890’s lumber yard. In Gardner, visit an original 1906 two-cell jail and visit a historic streetcar diner site. Tour scenic downtown Dwight and view the Tiffany-style window displays and tour the Great Museum and Frank Lloyd Wright bank. Our lunch stop at Old Route 66 Café on original Route 66 is a family-owned restaurant! In Odell, visit a restored 1932 filling station. This station is on the National Register of Historic Places. Pontiac is the next stop as you can explore the Route 66 Hall of Fame and Museum and much more. The last stop will be in Braidwood as you enjoy a delicious turtle sundae at the Polk-A-Dot Drive-In. While you are there, take some time to get your pictures taken with Elvis, Marilyn, Jake and Elwood, James Dean and Betty Boop. Trip includes motor coach transportation, snacks, lunch and admissions.
