Community Corner
"Rebuild the American Dream" meeting
During the weekend of July 16th and 17th tens of thousands of Americans
throughout the country will gather around kitchen tables, in community centers,
libraries and other public locations to tell their stories on what the American
Dream means to them and what can be done to rebuild that dream.
These events are part of a larger, national movement sponsored by MoveOn.org,
the AFL-CIO and numerous other organizations who are concerned with the current
economic crisis and the direction of the country.
The South Suburban Council of MoveOn with support of the AFL-CIO, local unions,
and other progressive organizations will be holding “Rebuild the Dream” meetings
at various locations in the southern suburbs.
At these meeting citizens will have an opportunity to tell how high
unemployment, foreclosures, lack of affordable health care, concerns about
retirement and budget cuts to education, Medicare, Medicaid and other public
programs are affecting their lives.
All are welcomed to tell their stories and give their ideas on what can be done
to recapture The American Dream.
