Fundraisers Benefit Romeoville Dad

The father of two was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer.

Friends are working to help a Romeoville family hit with a double whammy.

Justin Nelson, 35, is battling stage 4 brain cancer. The father of two was suffering from headaches, which he attributed to stress over a recent job loss. But on Dec. 10, 2013, just more than a week after the birth of his second child, Nelson learned he had a brain tumor, according to a website launched in support of the family.

Now, friends are raising money online to help Nelson, wife Tara and their children.

"Bill have been piling up," according to the site. "They are unable o make their mortgage payment, school loans, etc. With the added medical costs this family needs as much help and support as possible so they can concentrate on Justin’s medical needs."

In addition to creating a donation site (click here to contribute), friends are also planning a fundraiser.

The event is set for 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at The Crowd Around Me, 103 E. Jefferson St., located at the corner of routes 52 and 59 in Shorewood.

Entry fee is a $20 donation at the door. The event will include raffles, a 50/50 split the pot and food.
