Plainfield Businesses Collect Donations for Tornado Victims

Local efforts are helping those affected by the killer storms.

Heartland Bank & Trust's Plainfield locations are collecting items to help those affected by the tornadoes in Coal City and Washington, Illinois on Sunday.

The bank has two offices in Washington and is looking to help not only its own employees, but also the entire community. Donations are being accepted at the Plainfield banks, 14429 Wallin Dr. and 5650 Caton Farm Rd., all week.


Manager Amy Denniger said the donations will be delivered to Washington and Coal City over the weekend.

The following items are especially needed:
  • Sun Screen
  • Personal Protection Equipment (gloves/dust masks etc.)
  • Personal Hygiene items
  • Storage Tubs and Bags
  • Cleaning Supplies
  • Batteries
  • Cameras (for insurance claim filing)
  • Cell Phone Cards
  • Gas Cards
  • New Clean Socks
  • Diapers
  • Baby formula
  • Water
  • Pet Food
  • Pet Crates
  • Kitty litter
  • Plastic and Ropes (for roofs and closing up openings)
  • Diapers
  • Kids Toys and Books
  • Flashlights
  • Vitamins (un-opened)
  • Baby Bottles
  • Baby Spoons
  • Sippy Cups
  • Non-Perishable Foods
  • Wash Cloths
  • Towels
  • Razors

Wags to Whiskers, 16007 S. Route 59 (near Route 59 and Renwick), is also collecting donations until 7 p.m. Thursday. Donations should be boxed and clearly marked to indicate what is being donated. 

The location is not accepting pet food. "I will be donating whatever pet food I can fit in my SUV when I head down Friday/Saturday," owner Janelle Pitula said in a post on Plainfield Patch's Facebook page. "And I am working with our manufacturers to secure additional pet food donations."

  • female hygiene products

The shop is also collecting the following items needed by the Washington relief efforts at the Peoria Expo Center:
