  • On Friday, Dec. 20, several Plainfield police officers and Village of Plainfield employees headed to the Plainfield Target store to help 36 local kids find and purchase gifts for their families.

The goodwill came courtesy of fundraising efforts by the police, Plainfield School District 202, Oswego School District, 308, Plainfield Junior Woman's Club, Target, several other businesses and private donors, who raised a total of $11,000 to fund the holiday shopping sprees.

Kids were able to "shop with a cop" and then have their presents wrapped by volunteer village employees and the Plainfield Junior Woman's Club.

The annual Shop with a Cop effort allows police the opportunity to develop a stronger relationship with the community they serve and protect on a daily basis, Sgt. Mike Fisher said in a press release.

Anyone who wants to be part of next year's Shop with a Cop program should contact Plainfield police at 815-436-6544.
