Christmas in Plainfield: 2013 Holiday Event Roundup
Christmas events, holiday light recycling, tree lots and more.
You took down the turkey, now it's time to put up that tree and hang the lights: the Christmas season has begun.
To help you feel festive, we've put together a roundup of Plainfield-area holiday activities. Here's what's happening in town; click the links for details:
• Toys for Tots toy drive: Now through Dec. 6 at Plainfield fire stations.
• Candlelight Christmas/Lions Club Creche Lighting - Nov. 30: Shop downtown Plainfield during Small Business Saturday, enjoy holiday crafts, hot chocolate, pictures with Santa and more.
• Shop 'Til THEY Drop - Nov. 29: GymQuest and DanceQuest will give parents a break and entertain kids while mom and dad do their Black Friday shopping.
• Boy Scout Troop 91 Christmas tree sale: Trees will be on sale Nov. 29-30, Dec. 1, Dec. 7, Dec. 8, Dec. 14-15 at the Plainfield Moose Lodge. Click the link for tree lot hours and pricing.
• Plainfield Park District dance team at Joliet's holiday parade - Nov. 29: See the dance team shine at the annual Light Up the Holidays Parade in downtown Joliet.
• Food for Fines - Dec. 1 to 8: Drop off non-perishable food and receive forgiveness for fines at the Plainfield Public Library; benefits Green Harvest Food Pantry.
• Plainfield High Schools present Madrigal Dinners, holiday concerts: Click for times and dates for District 202's four high schools.
• St. Francis Xavier Church Holiday Bazaar & Bake Sale - Dec. 7 and 8: Find holiday crafts and more.
• Blue Christmas Worship Service - Dec. 7: Plainfield Congregational United Church of Christ's special service for those who find that the holidays are a difficult time.
• Pictures with Santa - Dec. 7: The event, hosted by Re/Max Professionals Select in Naperville, benefits Children's Miracle Network.
• Phone Calls from the North Pole: The Plainfield Park District will host Santa and his helpers as they make phone calls to local kids (ages 3 to 8) from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 11 and 12; sign up by Monday, Dec. 9, to have your child receive a call.
• Plainfield Park District holiday decorating contest: Sign up by Dec. 13; judging is Tuesday, Dec. 17.
• Holiday light recycling at the Plainfield Public Library: Drop off unwanted/non-functioning string lights Dec. 2 to Feb. 6 at the library.
