Christmas Day is time to relax and spend time with your loved ones.

But you never know when you'll need that last-minute item from the grocery store or that present you forgot — or just a quick cup of coffee.

Here's a look at what's open in Plainfield on Christmas Day.

Coffee, groceries

  • Tony's Finer Foods, 2300 Route 59: 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Starbucks, Route 59 and 127th: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Starbucks, Route 59 and Main Street: 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Drug stores/convenience stores:

  • CVS, 11840 Route 59: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Walgreens, 4822 Caton Farm Road: open 24 hours a day.
  • 7-Eleven, 14807 Route 59: open 24 hours a day.

Gas stations:

  • Thorntons Gas and Food Mart: 15800 Route 59, open 24 hours a day.
  • Plainfield Mobil, 22921 W. Lincoln Highway: open 24 hours a day.
  • Circle K, 11900 S. Route 59: open 24 hours a day.

Restaurants:

  • Ukai Sushi & Chinese, 13610 S. Route 59: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Great Wall of China, 13400 Route 59: 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Liquor stores:

  • T-Bird's Liquors, 15420 Route 59: 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (may close earlier if slow)
  • Route 30 Wine and Liquor, 23145 Lincoln Highway: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Veterinary care

Also, if you're a pet owner, it's good to know there's a place to go in Plainfield should your four-legged family member become sick: CARE Animal Emergency Services, located at the Plainfield Animal Care Center, 14411 S. Route 59, is open 24/7.
If you have a pet emergency, call 877-859-PETS (7387).

Fox's Restaurant & Pub, 14206 S. Route 30, is closed Christmas Day, but will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Christmas Eve.

What's closed:

  • Plainfield Public Library is closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (Dec. 24 and Dec. 25), as well as New Year's Eve and New Year's Day (Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, 2014).
  • Plainfield Village Hall is closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (Dec. 24 and Dec. 25) and New Year's Day (Jan. 1, 2014).
  • Plainfield Township is closed Christmas Day (Dec. 25) and New Year's Day (Jan. 1, 2014).
  • The Plainfield post office, 14855 S. Van Dyke Rd., is open Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve (click for more details) and closed Christmas Day (Dec. 25) and New Year's Day (Jan. 1, 2014).
  • Jewel-Osco (Route 59 and Caton Farm/Route 59 and 135th Street) is closed Christmas Day.
