10 Ways We Can All Be More Pro-Life

I'm so grateful that the Patch shared the time and locations of the upcoming anti-abortion protests this week.  Recently, I wrote an article about why those graphic posters make me sick to my stomach (as someone who is both pro-life and pro-choice).  Not to mention, I usually have my two-year-old children with me in the car.  They are just starting to ask questions.  I cannot even imagine how to begin to explain that to them.

So, instead, I will simply ignore these intersections this week.  And, I will offer 10 ways in which we can all be more pro-life (as opposed to simply pro-birth).  Because, no matter where we fall on the complex abortion debate, I bet we can all agree that we can do more to support and women and their born children.

  1. Donate to or volunteer with a local food pantry.
  2. Support a child and family halfway across the globe.
  3. Mentor a local child.
  4. Support missions like Imagine No Malaria to help stop this deadly and preventable disease from claiming the lives of thousands of women and children.
  5. Learn about the complex cycle of poverty that often leaves women and families with heart-wrenching and difficult decisions.
  6. Support organizations like Mercy Ministries which helps women in crisis with care and compassion.
  7. Donate to Creekside Cares, an awesome local organization that helps fill the backpacks of hungry kids with food.
  8. Sign up to walk in a local CROP Walk to help stop hunger right in our community and at the global level.
  9. Be an advocate for access to health care for all.
  10. Learn about the complex issues facing women and the abortion debate.  Listen to both sides with an open mind.  Seek real solutions for helping women in crisis.  Stop the yelling.  Stop the shock tactics.  Please

What did I leave off this list?  What other local (or global) organizations can we learn about and/or support in order to help create a society that is truly pro-life?

{Note on comments:  I write this in hopes of engaging conversation on the important middle ground on this issue.  Thank you for your care and compassion with this difficult topic.}
