National Day of Prayer Service This Thursday

Local leaders will conduct the nondenominational event at 9 a.m. in Settlers' Park.

A nondenominational service in recognition of the National Day of Prayer will be held at 9 a.m. May 3 at , immediately adjacent to .

The theme for this 61st year is: “One Nation Under God.”

According to the organization’s Web site: “The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman”.

Prayers for America and its leadership focus on the seven centers of power: Government, military, media, business, education, church and family. Community leaders, business people, clergy, and elected officials will lead the service.
