First Impression: Wild West BBQ

There's a new barbecue joint in town...

My wife and I checked out the new Wild West BBQ for supper this past week and here's what we found...

They serve hearty portions at fair prices. Their ribs (St. Louis cut) come dry-rubbed and were very tasty. There are mild and spicy sauces available but the ribs didn't really need any sauce. I found the mild sauce to be not particularly thick or flavorful, but it might go very well on a pulled pork sandwich. I'll find out next time.

We both ordered the meaty beans as a side and loved them. Instead of beans with a little meat thrown in, envision a bowl of pulled pork with baked beans mixed in. That and a hunk of crusty bread could actually make for a meal in itself, no exaggeration.

Everything on the menu is à la carte. To be honest, I think they would probably do better to sell complete meals, i.e. where your main dish comes with any two sides and a drink. After all, barbecue is all about indulgence, right?

The people there seem genuinely warm, friendly and courteous, which always adds something to the dining experience. The decor is, of course, western and pretty cool to look at. There is a nice-looking bar on one side that I am certain could be filled with patrons if it were promoted a bit.

In all we had a good experience and I'm sure we'll be back.
