Police said two deputies were allowed into the home by a relative after the 17-year-old threatened family members with a knife and was "behaving erratically."

Deputies encountered Chavez Sanchez in a hallway, where he refused repeated orders to drop the knife, police said. He then rushed the deputies, slashing one of them across the face, according to police.

Will County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said the female deputy, who sustained a deep laceration to her face, fired her weapon once, striking Chavez Sanchez in the chest.
