Educating the Director
The additional compensation needed to educate our new executive director of the park district is a bit of an unknown. I don’t know what kind of education he needs, but let’s say he would like to complete a bachelors degree in Recreation. There is a fine program at the University of Illinois that requires students to accumulate 300 hours of practical work experience in an internship program. That seems to be a good fit. But a traditional college setting might be inconvenient for someone who also has to attend village board meetings. Perhaps an on-line course might be an option. In my opinion, even if our new parks director is not planning a complete bachelors degree program, I think that any money going towards his education is money well spent.
