Letter: 'Plainfield Turkey Drop Gobbles Them In'

Send letters to the editor to shannon.antinori@patch.com.

The weather on Saturday, Nov. 17 this year was outstanding for November standards and the 13th Annual Plainfield Turkey Drop benefited from it in more ways than 1,050. That was the 2011 number of frozen turkeys collected, that the Plainfield Moose Lodge was trying to top this year.

Thanks to a public swarming of generous donors, cash donations, and a constant stream of vehicles, loaded with frozen turkeys, can goods, produce and smiling families, they easily surpassed that number by receiving 1,225 turkeys.

Beginning in October each year, the Turkey Drop Committee, chaired by Barb Thompson, Julie and Gerry Ford and Bob Provo, start advertising and requesting donations that will benefit community food pantries. This year they were able to supply Thanksgiving dinner items to MorningStar Mission of Joliet, Plainfield Interfaith Food Pantry, Wheatland Township, Green Harvest Food Pantry, We Care of Romeoville Food Pantry and Plainfield School District 202 Needy Family Program.

They would like to thank the many local businesses, residents, Moose members and everyone that helped make this Thanksgiving more enjoyable for so many individuals and families.
