Plainfield Republican Party Response to the Plainfield Park District

Over the past few days, and months really, I have been an observer at the Plainfield Park District Board Meetings. I do not consider myself a Republican, but have voted for members of both parties based on whom I think will do the better job. I have not been happy with what has been going on the last few months at the Plainfield Park District.

I was angered by some comments that people have been posting on this website the last few days; specifically what the elected officials have been doing. There have been some vocal officials out there, and some officials who have not been so publicly vocal. I have been happy with the those vocal such as Jim Racich. However, it is unfair to say that the others whom were quieter sat by and did nothing. I know this is not true. Republicans have been working behind-the-scenes for a long time to get this to happen. I know a Plainfield Republican elected official whom on numerous occasions has told me that what Garrett Peck and the board majority has done was not done with the backing of the Republican Party.

After reading the article in which Mr. Peck talked about building the Republican party in Plainfield the last 6 years, I was nauseated. I have lived in Plainfield for over 25 years, and as far as I can recall Plainfield was a reliably Republican voting block. People like Tom Cross, Margie Bonuchi, and Tony Fremarek have done a great deal to continue to build the Republican Party in Plainfield.

In my experience, there are good and bad people in politics. There are good and bad people in both the Republican and Democratic parties. I whole heartedly believe people who are like Margie represent the good in the Republican party, and that people like Mr. Peck represent the bad.

Everything that has gone on at the Plainfield Park District in the last few months should be taken as a lesson. One, voters need to be aware of whom they are voting for. Just because there is only one person listed on a ballot does not mean they deserve your vote. Try to do research before you go and vote. I certainly tried to in the last couple of elections and was dismayed to find out that there was hardly any information on the local candidates. In the end, I resorted to the one person I knew who could tell me about each candidate's character. My friend, the elected Plainfield Republican official alerted me to the characters of the board majority. I am happy to say that I did not vote for any of them.

If there is anyone out there who lives in Precinct 5, I would like to take this opportunity to alert you that Ms. Janet Silosky will be challenged by Matt Starr. Please consider voting for him for Precinct Committeeman.
