Poll: Will McCarthy Win an Oscar?

The bookmakers in Vegas say no, but what do they know?

Plainfield native Melissa McCarthy will learn Sunday night if her scene-stealing role in "Bridesmaids" will earn her Oscar gold.

The folks in Las Vegas say the odds aren't with her. Most are putting her chances at about 30-1, with most of the money on Octavia Spencer and her role in "The Help."

It doesn't seem fair to pit a comedy against a drama, but we're not members of the Academy. Take our poll below and tell us what you think.

We in the film industry care. If she happens to win this award it will be historical and will set the bar to a whole new level when it comes to comedies and the Oscars. Winning an Academy Award is the most important achievement in the film industry. An Academy Award winner is recognized with the highest standards among their peers and with potential co-workers and upper management in the industry. And as of now, there has never been a woman to achieve such a status by basically acting out a wicked case of diarrhea! Women delivering the filth in raunch coms (and being a BIG hit) is a relatively new concept anyway and to be recognized by The Academy for doing so, (wheather she wins or not) is a HUGE DEAL!

I hope she wins. I know her from school and she is a very nice person. She has come a long way and deserves that award.
