Letter: Hurtado's Racism Claims Are an Insult to Residents

Resident to Plainfield Park District president: "It would be better to get out of the spotlight while the getting is good."

Peter,

I have read your letter to the editor several times. I find it insulting to the people of Plainfield who elected you to your post. Many who are Hispanic. I find it insulting to the previous board members with whom you have served. What I find most insulting is that in your letter, you did not address one issue or answer one accusation from members of your public and your Park District Board.

Peter, the people you fired and replaced with what look like friends and family of your board majority are asking why. What business strategy does that represent? Those firings have reduced the collective Park District employee experience by decades.

In my presence no one has ever questioned your heritage. What they have questioned, and LOUDLY, is the unethical way the Park District under you leadership is doing business.

What is important at the Park District is working for and getting results for our community. What we have seen so far is Peter Hurtado citizen of Plainfield Township doing well for Peter Hurtado. What we saw Garrett Peck doing, was doing well for Garrett Peck. There are serious questions on the table for Park Board Member Hurtado. You had better get around to answering those questions and quickly. The Will County State’s Attorney has been asked about some of the questionable activities. Inquiries have also been made to the Attorney General of the State of Illinois.

In addition, It appears that Garrett’s credit card may have some questionable expenditures. And some payments for LED lights. Who do we know that sells lighting fixtures??? Oh, one or two of Peter Hurtado’s companies are in the lighting business. And now the boyfriend of your daughter may be a shell company as well. Wow Peter. Really Peter, Seriously? Do you really want to throw racial accusations at your community members? It would be better to get out of the spotlight while the getting is good. Peter, seriously, please resign. Whatever you have done with the finances of the Park District are bad enough, but now you have also insulted the community you call home.

Peter, this has never been about you, your park board service is supposed to be about better parks. You are no longer in a trusted position to accomplish that goal. Please step aside and resign. Let the community get about the business of rebuilding their park district.
