If the Plainfield Park District is as strapped for cash as some would lead us to believe, why did the Board vote to continue to lease land with a proposal to build a $1,000,000 park from St. John's Church? This deal seems like a bad one for the district and bad for us taxpayers.
If I understand the contract correctly, the Park District is required to pay half the cost for site improvements of all 14 acres, even thought the park only encompasses four acres.
Taxpayers will be paying for half of the church's engineering fees, parking lot, landscaping, exterior lighting, sidewalks and retention pond.
Bottom line: The Park District leases this property for a $1, but has to pay for the church's site improvements at who knows what cost.
This is a clear misuse of public money. Thanks to Pete Hurtado and Pete Steinys for being responsible with our money and voting no.
