Ludemann: Support Bill to Expand Plainfield Park Board

Park commissioner urges residents to get behind bill that would allow legislators to appoint two new board members.

Submitted by Plainfield Park Board commissioner Mary Kay Ludemann:

Please support House Bill 5593! This legislation would immediately add 2 new commissioners to the park board. One would be appointed by State Representative Tom Cross and one would be appointed by Senator Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant. The 2 new commissioners would serve until the spring 2015 elections at which time they would come up for reelection along with Larry Newton and myself. This legislation passed the House with 100 yes votes and 12 no votes. It is now in the Senate and is scheduled for a Senate hearing on Wednesday, May 14th at 2 pm in Springfield. Senator Bertino-Tarrant has requested that supporters of this legislation file a witness slip, which you can do at the following web address:

http://my.ilga.gov/Hearing/HearingDetail/12039

Look for HB5593, the witness slip button is on the right. Fill in the form and select "proponent" to show support. Incidentally, the registration page asks you to declare who you represent. This is for lobbyists. You can declare "private citizen" or "resident" for those slots.

If HB5593 passes out of committee the next step is a vote by the Senate, and if it passes the Senate it then goes to the Governor for him to sign it into law. At that point the 2 new commissioners can be added!

Please do this right away. We are hoping for at least 100 proponent witness slips to show community support. Your support is appreciated!

Sincerely,
Mary Kay Ludemann
