Winter Farmers Market To Return To Plainfield UMC

With the dragging on of the Polar Vortex this winter, the pleasant bustle and warmth of a farmers market may be the last thing on everyone's mind.  However, thanks to a partnership between Plainfield United Methodist Church and Faith in Place, those dreams of summer can be more of a reality - if only for a Saturday morning.

This Saturday, February 8th, Plainfield UMC (15114 S. Illinois Street) will again be hosting a Winter Farmers Market presented by Faith in Place.  At this indoor event, vendors from the Chicago-land area will set up shop in the Fellowship Hall of the church and offer their winter goods.  Shoppers will find a variety of products including honey, salsa, jams, meats, baked-goods, homemade soaps and seasonal produce.

After a very successful event last year, the staff and members at Plainfield UMC are excited for the opportunity to serve as repeat host.  Pastor Sherry Scates sees the event as mutually beneficial to both Faith in Place and to the Plainfield community.  “We are simply helping to connect local farmers and producers with conscientious consumers who want to find food that has been sustainably grown in our area. Also, it's a great opportunity to get out of the house and try something new."

Pastor Eun-Hye Choi echoes these sentiments and says she looks forward to attending this "heart-warming" event in order to "meet and mingle with people who care about local farms and food."

Faith in Place is an interfaith organization with a mission to “care for the Earth through connection, education, and advocacy” and works with vendors who show a commitment to sustainable farming and production methods.  They host a number of farmers markets each winter throughout the Chicago-land area.  You can learn more about their mission and community events by visiting their website, Faith in Place.

Doors open at 10:00 AM.  For more information, please see the Winter Farmers Market event page on the Patch or on Facebook.
