1 Man Dead in Car Versus Bicycle Crash in Minooka

A 43-year-old Minooka resident was pronounced dead at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center.

A car versus pedestrian crash on Ridge Road Monday night left one man dead. Minooka Police Chief Justin Meyer said a single passenger vehicle was northbound on Ridge Road, just north of McEvilly Road, when it struck a 43-year-old, male Minooka resident.

The man was taken to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 8:16 p.m., Meyer said.

Ridge Road was shut down between McEvilly Road and Twin Rails Drive while police investigated the accident.

"Grundy County (Sheriff's Police) is assisting us with reconstruction of the accident," Meyer said.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured and was the only occupant.

The rider even was properly equipped with flashing lights. Motorists need to stay off their damn cell phones while driving. As a fire fighter that responds to auto accidents, so many of them are caused by irresponsible drivers texting and using their smart phones and NOT WATCHING THE DAMN ROAD.
Too many police January 17, 2013 at 09:59 PM
This is sad, the problem is theirs 30 cops and always get NEW cop cars. How about spending the tax money on the sidewalks. This town is a joke, there's no real crime in this town. I see Minooka police parked all down Ridge Rd. get rid of half the squad and take that money and put sidewalks in. I hope the mans family sues this city for all it's worth.

No real crime in Minooka? Hmmm ...maybe because you have cops that are doing their job. I always hear how bad Minooka cops are. If you're obeying the laws then you shouldn't have a problem, right?

This idea that a sidewalk would have prevented this accident is wrongheaded. Sidewalks are not meant for bicycles. Sidewalks exist for pedestrians. Bike paths, while a nice amenity, are also no substitute for a properly constructed roadway in terms of safety. People need to learn that the bicycling is not just a recreational activity. For many, it is a preferred method of transportation. The roads don't exist only for cars, trucks, and motorcycles. By law, they exist for the bicycle rider, too.
