17-Day Crackdown Nets 4 DUIs, 549 Tickets, Police Say

A state grant allowed the Plainfield police to set up a dozen seat belt enforcement zones and multiple DUI saturation patrols.

nabbed four drunk drivers and issued 549 tickets during impaired driver and seatbelt violation crackdowns conducted with the state over the last two weeks.

The campaigns were held from Nov. 12 to 28 in conjuction with the Illinois Department of Transportation-Division of Traffic Safety, which provided grant funding to pay for additional seatbelt enforcement zones -- six during the day and six at night -- as well as multiple DUI saturation patrols. 

The Click It or Ticket effort resulted in 529 seat belt violation citations and 20 for child safety seat violations, according to information released by Traffic Sgt. Eric Munson.

Of that total number, 66 were issued between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., he said. According to the National Highway Traffic Adminstration, seat belt usage goes down by about 10 percent at night.
