18 Citations, 1 Warning in Crossing Crackdown

Plainfield police teamed with Canadian National and Union Pacific railroad police Thursday to conduct a special enforcement in conjunction with .

In just two-and-a-half hours, police issued 18 citations and one written warning to motorists not following railroad crossing rules, Plainfield police said Friday.

The following citations were issued:

  • 11 citations for stopping within railroad grade crossing
  • 4 citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle
  • 1 citation for failure to wear seatbelt
  • 1 citation for no valid safety test
  • 1 citation for disobeying signal warning of approaching train
  • 1 written warning for trespass to railroad property

The goal of the campaign was to decrease the number of crashes at grade-level crossings through education and enforcement to make people aware of the potential consequences of not following the rules of the road around crossings, police said.
