186 Tickets in Route 59 Enforcement: Plainfield Police

Local police teamed with IDOT and faces4.org to crack down on speeders.

Oct. 8 was Speed Awareness Day in Plainfield, with local police working with other agencies to reduce speeding along Route 59.

The enforcement paired Plainfield police with the Families Against Chronic Excessive Speed (www.faces4.org), along with railroad police agencies, Illinois State Police, Illinois Commerce Commission Police, Naperville police, Shorewood police and the Will County Sheriff's office.

The result was more than 180 citations issued — including 100 for speeding. Here's the breakdown:

  • Speeding: 100
  • No insurance: 20
  • Registration offenses: 6
  • Truck safety violations: 15
  • Other equipment violations: 3
  • Trespassing to railroad property: 6
  • Occupant restraint: 13
  • Traffic sign/signal: 3
  • Overweight violations: 1
  • Other moving violations: 5
  • Driving while suspended: 4
  • Railroad crossing violations: 10
  • Total citations issued; 186
  • Total warnings: 23
  • Total commercial motor vehicle inspections – 28 (state police and Illinois Commerce Commission Police)
  • Total commercial motor vehicles taken out of service – 10 (state police)
  • Total drivers/vehicles taken out of service – 10 (state police)
  • Total motor carrier safety warnings – 104 (state police)
