UPDATE: Man Dies After Head-On Crash in Plainfield

A Plainfield man has died, and three other people were injured in the crash near the I-55 Frontage Road at Bussey Drive.

Updated at 8 a.m. Oct. 3:

A Plainfield man has died following a two-vehicle crash just south of the Louis Joliet Mall.

Craig W. Paton, 54, was pronounced dead at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Presence St. Joseph Medical Center, according to Will County Coroner Patrick O'Neil. Paton was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a head-on collision Wednesday afternoon at Bussey Drive and Frontage Road.

The Plainfield Police Department is investigating the crash, according to the coroner's office. Three other people were hurt when a Cadillac SRX and a Chevy Malibu collided around 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Four people were hospitalized following a head-on crash just before 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bussey Drive and the I-55 Frontage Road, just south of the Louis Joliet Mall area, according to officials.


Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton said several people had to be extricated after a Cadillac SRX and a Chevy Malibu collided. Patients were taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital and Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center following the crash.

Stratton said the male driver of the Cadillac was in serious condition after the crash. Three people — an adult female and two adult men — were extricated from the Chevy, with one patient listed in serious condition, he said.
