Bolingbrook Police Chase Down Three Suspects After Shooting, I-55 Chase

Wild incident early Saturday morning leads to arrest of three Joliet residents following a chase down I-55.

Two Bolingbrook men were shot.

A squad car was rammed as Bolingbrook police chased three suspects fleeing from the scene in an SUV around Lake Shore Drive, Briarcliff Road and ultimately onto I-55 during a wild incident early Saturday morning, according to Lt. Mike Rompa.

Rompa said the three suspects—all residents of Joliet—finally were apprehended after the offenders exited their vehicle and were chased down on foot. He said all three were transported to the Bolingbrook Police Department.

Rompa said the incident began at 12:20 a.m. in the 100 block of Malibu.

"Bolingbrook officers were in the area of the 100 block of Malibu when they heard gunshots being fired," he said. "They then observed several subjects running in different directions and a gray SUV fleeing the scene."

And that's when the pursuit picked up steam.

"Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle with negative results," Rompa said. "The offending vehicle drove around Lake Shore Drive and back onto Briarcliff Road, intentionally ramming a squad car in the process."

At that time, Rompa said officers on the scene on Malibu confirmed there were two victims who had sustained gunshot wounds, both males from Bolingbrook, one age 20, the other 21. He said the preliminary indication is neither suffered life-threatening injuries.

One of the victims was shot in the chest, Rompa said. He was transported to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. The other was shot in the leg, Rompa said. He was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital and later transferred to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood.

In the meantime, the three suspects in the case still were on the loose.

"Officers continued to pursue the offending vehicle through Bolingbrook and then onto I-55," Rompa said. "The pursuit ended in unincorporated Joliet, at which time the offenders exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

"Bolingbrook (police)—with the help of several other agencies—were able to apprehend three subjects who were taken into cutody and transported to the Bolingbrook Police Department."

Rompa said the incident remains under investigation and charges are pending.
