Bond Dropped But Still Too High For Alleged Teen Sex Abuser

The bond for a Plainfield teen charged with sexually abusing a boy was cut by $100,000 but it doesn't look like he's going anywhere anyway.

The lawyer for a Plainfield teen charged with sexually abusing a boy got the judge to go along with a bond reduction, but it still doesn't look like he's getting out anytime soon.

Will County Judge Sarah Jones cut Jason Minger's $250,000 bond down to $150,000 Friday. But Minger only has enough to post 10 percent of a 30,000 bond, said his attorney, Chuck Bretz.

In trying to convince the judge to come down to $30,000, Bretz told her that Minger, 19, could be counted on to show up to court if he got out of jail. Bretz also pointed out that the more serious of two felony sex charges filed against Minger was dropped and that even if he is found guilty, he could be sentenced to probation.

Prosecutor Derek Ewanic countered that the remaining count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse is "still a very serious charge." Ewanic also said Minger has a juvenile conviction for disorderly conduct and that "the facts of the case were sexual in nature."

After Judge Jones set Minger's new bond at $150,000, Bretz complained that Ewanic was only asking for $100,000. Jones told him she could make the bond whatever she felt like.

Minger was arrested in May 2012 for allegedly abusing a boy over the course of a year. The alleged abuse may have been committed nearly two years prior to Minger being taken into custody, according to court papers. The boy would have been 10 years old at the time of the alleged abuse.
