Bond Set for Men Accused of Drunken Gunplay in Plainfield Township

Two men were still in jail Monday night after police said they went on a drunken shooting spree in a Plainfield Township backyard.

Hank Robinson, 25, of the 23000 block of Bentley Drive in unincorporated Plainfield Township and Carmen Nero III, 33, of Joliet, were in court Monday afternoon, each facing charges of reckless discharge of a firearm and use of a firearm without a FOID card.

Robinson, who was paroled in April after serving time for a string of 2010 salon burglaries, is also charged with unlawful use of a firearm by a felon.

Bond for Robinson was set at $75,000, meaning he would have to post $7,500 to be released from the Will County jail.

Nero’s bond was set at $50,000, or $5,000 bail.

Robinson and Nero were arrested early Sunday morning after allegedly firing off more than a dozen rounds with a semi-automatic handgun in the backyard of Robinson’s Bentley Drive home.

Will County’s Special Operations Group was called to the scene after neighbors reported shots fired, and the occupants of the house failed to cooperate with Joliet police, who responded first to the scene.

During questioning, Robinson and Nero admitted to getting drunk and firing the weapon, which was recovered in the attic, according to Will County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Chief Ken Kaupas.

In 2010, Robinson was convicted in a string of burglaries at hair and nail salons in towns including Plainfield, Joliet, Shorewood and Channahon. He was arrested in April 2010 after being pulled over by state police, who discovered a stolen cash register and money drawers in the backseat of his car.
