Car Burglaries Reported in Plainfield Township

Items stolen from unlocked cars overnight on Copper Drive.

Will County Sheriff's Police are investigating at least two vehicle burglaries that happened overnight this week in Plainfield Township.

Spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said two residents in the 23000 block of Copper Drive awoke early Feb. 3 to discover their vehicles had been burglarized.

The thief was able to get inside one vehicle due to a defective door lock, stealing a Pioneer stereo faceplate and a diaper bag, Hoffmeyer said.

A Samsung Galaxy Tablet, decibel reader and duffel bag were stolen from the second vehicle, which was unlocked, according to police.

Hoffmeyer said sheriff's police are not aware of an increase in car burglaries in the neighborhood.

Last week, thieves struck several vehicles parked outside the C.W. Avery Family YMCA on Wallin Drive. The cars were burglarized during broad daylight — and in sub-zero temperatures. Unlike the Copper Drive incident, the thief or thieves at the YMCA broke several windows to gain access to the cars.
