Channahon Woman Jailed For Allegedly Attacking Grandparents Also Menaced Elderly Couple With Scissors: Petition

The Channahon woman was on a two-day bender when she viciously attacked her grandparents and was disarmed at gunpoint by the police, according to a petition for a protective order.

The Channahon woman jailed for allegedly clubbing her grandmother to the ground and chasing her grandfather around his yard also menaced the elderly couple with a pair of scissors and was disarmed at gunpoint by the police, according to a petition for a protective order.

Tonya Harris, 33, remains locked up in the Will County jail. She is being held in lieu of $50,000 bond and probably shouldn't expect her grandparents to rush out to Joliet with the money to spring her.

Harris went nuts on her grandparents, both 74, Sunday evening when they tried to stop her from leaving the house, police said. The elderly man and wife were reportedly concerned that Harris was too drunk to drive.

That concern may have stemmed from Harris allegedly going on a two-day bender prior to the attack.

"Tonya was out of her mind drunk, she had been drinking for two days, she wanted her car keys but my husband would not give them to her," the grandmother wrote in her petition.

"She was angry fighting for the keys," the petition said. "She grabbed the scissors and went after her grandfather. I was in the bathroom and Tonya tried to get in the bathroom with the scissors. She could not get in. She walked away. I went downstairs and Tonya came after me hitting me in the arm and leaving a big bruise on my arm. She shoved me into the cabinet and I hit my head leaving a big goose egg on my head."

When the police showed up, officers "had to pull their guns to make Tonya drop the scissors," the petition said.

While Harris has yelled at and mocked her grandparents in the past "if she does not get what she wants," Sunday was "the first time she had hit me and threatened us with scissors," the grandmother wrote in her petition.
