Clublands Fire Started In Garage

The home was vacant, and the cause is still under investigation.

A vacant home for sale in the 7400 block of Windstone Court caught fire Sunday. Heavy smoke and flames were visible when the Joliet Fire Department appeared on the scene, according to Deputy Chief Ray Randich. The cause is still under investigation.

"The fire was contained in about 45 minutes," he said. "No injuries reported to any fire fighter, no injuries reported to anyone on the scene."

The main body of the fire was in the garage area, he said. There was extensive damage to the garage, and the bedroom above it. The rest of the house had heavy smoke and water damage, but the home did not burn to the ground, Randich explained.

However, the intensity of the fire caused the firefighters to go into defensive mode right away. Randich said that means they had to fight it from the outside for about 20 minutes.

Once they were able to get inside, they fought the fire for another 20 to 25 minutes before they were able to contain it.

Homes in the Clublands are considered both Joliet and Plainfield.

"It's a Plainfield address, but it's a Joliet fire and police," said Plainfield Fire Department's Deputy Chief Jon Stratton.
