Cooper Takes Stand in Door County Murder Trial
Brian Cooper is accused in the deaths of Alisha Bromfield of Plainfield and her unborn daughter.
The man accused of killing a pregnant Plainfield woman during a trip to Door County, Wisconsin, took the stand in his own defense on Thursday.
Brian Cooper, 36, also of Plainfield, is charged in the August 2012 deaths of Alisha Bromfield and her unborn daughter, who was to be named Ava Lucille.
Cooper testified that he only remembers "bits and pieces" of the morning 21-year-old Bromfield died, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette. He also said he didn't remember making a 9-1-1 call to report the crime. Click to read the full Gazette story
Prosecutors allege Cooper strangled Bromfield after she refused to rekindle a romantic relationship with him. The pair were in Door County to attend the wedding of Cooper's sister. Bromfield's body was found at a resort in Nasewaupee, Wisconsin, after Cooper called police to report the murder from a gas station in nearby Sister Bay.
Cooper's testimony came during the third day of the trial, after the jury listened to a recording of his 9-1-1 call. Jurors also viewed a video of Cooper's first interview with police.
Earlier in the week, Judge D. Todd Ehlers denied a motion for a mistrial, and refused to allow Cooper to fire his attorney.
