Coyotes in the Western Suburbs Get More Aggressive?

The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that a pack broke a door trying to get at dogs in suburban Riverside.

Have you heard that eerie howl or scream in the night? It's likely a coyote. It could be digging into your garbage or on the prowl for easy prey.

But while they are not aggressive towards people, they can go after small animals, especially if food is scarce. That seems to be exactly what happened in Riverside, a western suburb of Chicago. The Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that a pack broke an exterior door of a residence while chasing down a dog that had been outside.

Riverside Police Sgt Bill Guts chick said in the Sun-Times story "in his 25 years on duty, this was the first time he’s heard of coyotes trying to get into a home while chasing a pet."

This time last year, a couple in New Lenox reported that coyotes nearly killed a couple of dogs in the undeveloped area south of Haven Avenue and north of Illinois Highway. In the Lincoln-Way communities, Old Plank Trail along with locations near wooded areas is the likeliest places to encounter coyotes.

In November we compiled a map of places in New Lenox where coyotes had been spotted.

To bad NL won't let people hunt coyotes in city limits. The issue is just going to get worse. Simple solution to the problem.

Nah.... They'll move on at some point. I use to have them in the open are next to our house years ago. It seemed like they came when the wooded area was opened up over by MES to make that small Metra lot. The coyotes only stayed for a year or so.
