False Alarm at Plainfield School

A student accidentally hit the alarm, according to the district.

District 202 spokesman Tom Hernandez said Joliet police responded to what turned out to be a false alarm Thursday at River View Elementary School, 2097 Bronk Rd.

According to Hernandez, the after-school incident occurred when a student apparently hit the new alarm system with a basketball.

Joliet police said the student hit a panic alarm and triggered a lock down by accident. Officers checked the school and found everything was fine. Police were clearing the scene now as of 6 p.m. Thursday.
