The following was provided by the Plainfield Fire Protection District
On Saturday, May 11 Plainfield Fire Protection District Firefighters will be at the Jewel-Osco, 13460 S. Route 59, from 10 am until 4 pm collecting funds to “Fill the Boot” for the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance Burn Camp “I Am Me.” Donations collected will be used to support Camp “I Am Me” and its burn prevention programs.
Burn Camp “I Am Me” invites young burn survivors to share their experience while being able to play and not feel self-conscious about how others may react to their scars. The Burn Camp “I Am Me” volunteer staff includes fire service personnel as well as doctors, nurses, social workers, child life, physical and occupational therapists, Camp Duncan counselors and adult burn survivors. Funds collected during fundraisers are used to support burn camp operations and also go towards camp expenses.
Anyone knowing of a burn survivor who would benefit from Burn Camp “I Am Me” or would like further information should contact the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance, P.O. Box 911, Mount Prospect, Illinois 60056, or call 847-390-0911. You may also visit their web site at www.ifsa.org.
