Fire Damages Garage, Car in Plainfield

No one was hurt in the blaze.

An electric starter may be the culprit behind an early morning car fire in Plainfield.

Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton said the fire broke out around 6:30 a.m. in the 23000 block of Chicago Street inside a detached garage.

While the car and the garage were destroyed, Stratton said the fire did not spread to the home. He said investigators believe an electric starter installed on an older vehicle likely started the fire.

"The fire started under the hood," he said, saying the blaze did not appear suspicious and no one was hurt.
