Former Wheatland Board Member Facing Hit and Run Charges

Former Wheatland Township and Will County Board member Michael Wisniewski, 63, is accused of striking a pedestrian with his vehicle and leaving the scene Thursday morning.

  • According to the Herald-NewsWill County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said police and Naperville firefighters responded to Wagner Road and Walter Lane in Wheatland Township at around 7:49 a.m. Thursday after a 48-year-old Naperville man was allegedly struck by a Honda Pilot. 

    The pedestrian suffered a head injury and was taken to Edward Hospital in Naperville, according to the report. The man's condition was not known Friday.

    According to Herald, Hoffmeyer said the Honda fled the scene of the crash, but the vehicle was later traced to Wisniewski's home. Deputies later determined he was the one driving the vehicle, police said. Click here to read the full article.

    Wisniewski, of 11S414 Sanders Rd. in Naperville, was arrested by Will County Sheriff's police at around 6:30 p.m. Thursday, according to jail records. He is charged with felony failure to report an accident with injury, along with a misdemeanor charge of failure to give information/render aid.

    In addition to serving on the Will County Board from 2002 to 2010, Wisniewski is also a former Wheatland Township trustee. 

    Bond information for Wisniewski was not available Friday afternoon. He remained in custody at the Will County jail, according to booking records.
