4 Charged in Break-in at Jones Middle School

The teens were arrested Wednesday after police caught them playing with walkie-talkie radios that were reportedly stolen, police said.

Four teens were charged with burglary Wednesday after Plainfield police caught them playing with walkie-talkies they allegedly stole from Ira Jones Middle School the night before.

David H. Korallus, 18, and his brother, Kevin, 17, both of 16 Willow Springs Lane, Plano, will also face criminal damage to property charges, Detective Sgt. Kevin McQuaid said. Two juveniles, ages 13 and 14, were arrested in the break-in as well.

The group entered the 15320 W. Wallin Drive building by slicing through a screen and raising an unlocked window.

"I guess they wanted to see what it was like to walk around in an empty school," McQuaid said.

While inside, they took several flags and nine radio walkie-talkies, valued at about $5,000, he said.

The school's alarm did go off, but police did not answer it immediately because several alarms were activated simultaneously by the severe thunderstorm that moved through the area Tuesday night, McQuaid said.

Police were able to track down the suspects after an Ira Jones principal told them he could hear the teens talking on the walkie-talkies on his radio. McQuaid said police found them using the equipment in the front yard of a nearby house.

The Korralus brothers were staying with their mother at the Plainfield home of the mother's boyfriend. Both are now being held in the Will County jail pending a bond hearing.

The juveniles were charged and released to the custody of their parents, McQuaid said.
