Four Students, 1 Adult Hurt in Crash Near Plainfield East

Both vehicles were totaled in the crash around 4 p.m. Friday.

Four Plainfield East High School students and one adult suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a two-car crash near the school on Naperville-Plainfield Road at around 4 p.m. Friday, police said.

Plainfield Police Sgt. Mike Fisher said a sedan was heading south carrying five students when the driver pulled over onto the shoulder just south of the school. The driver lost control while pulling the vehicle back onto the road, and the car slid into the northbound lane, where it was Fisher said it was T-boned by a Chevy Trailblazer.

The teen driver refused treatment at the scene, but four passengers — all Plainfield East students — were transported to area hospitals, Fisher said.

Plainfield Deputy Fire Chief Jon Stratton said one girl had to be extricated from the car and apparently suffered a broken leg.

The woman driving the Trailblazer was also transported to a hospital with minor injuries, Stratton said.

Fisher said both cars were totaled in the crash.

“Both had major vehicle damage,” he said. “It looks a lot worse than it is ... [There were] some minor cuts, bruises, soreness and some scared kids.”

The road was closed between 127th and 111th streets for about an hour following the crash and reopened shortly after 5 p.m.

The crash was still under investigation Friday, but Fisher said citations would “definitely” be issued in the incident.
