Gas Leak Forces Route 126 Road Closure This Morning

Construction crews accidentally struck a 2-inch gas line; residents were told to stay inside and the I-55/Route 126 exit was closed.

A morning gas leak at Interstate 55 and Route 126 that caused road closures and forced residents indoors was repaired by Nicor within a few hours.

Construction crews rerouting an AT&T line at Route 126 and Michigan Street hit the 2-inch main at about 10:30 a.m., according to a report published on the Sun-Times Media wire

Residents were told by Plainfield police to say indoors and keep windows closed while temporary repairs were being made, the story said. The southbound I-55 exit at Route 126 was also temorarily closed.
