Joliet Cops Searching For Bank Robber After Heist at Harris Branch on Route 59

The bandit fled on foot from the Harris Bank on Route 59 and has managed to so far elude the police.

A bank robber knocked over the BMO Harris branch on Route 59 just before noon Wednesday.

The bandit walked into the bank about 11:45 a.m., announced he was robbing the place, took money from a teller and left, said Joliet Cmdr. Al Roechner.

The man fled on foot. Police used dogs in their search of the area around Route 59 and Caton Farm Road Wedneday afternoon.

No one was injured in the holdup and the robber never showed a weapon. Police said the fugitive thief is a man but released no further description of him. Roechner said there was "nothing unusual" about the man and that he did not cover his face with a mask of any kind.

FBI agents also were at the bank after the robbery. FBI spokeswoman Joan M. Hyde said she was still waiting for information from the responding agents early Wedneday afternoon.

The bank shut down after the robbery. A sign on the door said it was "closed due to technical difficulties."
