School Janitor Sold Drugs out of Plainfield-Area House: Police

Rodney Kelly was arrested at his job at a Joliet school after Joliet police executed a search warrant and found drugs and other items in his home.

A janitor at Sator Sanchez Elementary School in Joliet was arrested Thursday for selling drugs out of his Plainfield-area house, Joliet Police Cmdr. Al Roechner said.

Rodney Kelly, 48, was arrested at the school after police, armed with a warrant, searched his 5314 Brindlewood Drive home at about 10:50 a.m. and found 47 grams of cannabis, 1.2 grams of cocaine, three digital scales, packaging materials and a .22-caliber revolver, Roechner said.

Police obtained enough evidence to obtain a search warrant after neighbors complained that they thought Kelly was selling drugs out of the house, located near Caton Farm Road and Wesmere Parkway, he said.

At this point, there is no evidence that Kelly was selling illegal substances to students or anyone else at Sanchez School, Roechner said.

Kelly was charged with possession of cannabis for delivery, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug equipment and possession of a firearm without an FOID card. He is being held in the Will County jail pending the setting of bond.
