Two small house fires, both of which began in laundry rooms, took place within hours of each on opposite sides of Caton Farm Road, Joliet police said.
The first occurred at about 6 p.m. Wednesday in a second-floor laundry room of a house in the 5900 block of Arbor Gate Drive, Cmdr. Rich Demick said. The fire was quickly extinguished and contained to just that area of the home, he said.
The call on the second came in at about 1:30 a.m. Thursday for a home in the 2600 block of Stonebridge Drive, Demick said. In this case, smoke was coming through the outlet used for a washing machine, he said.
Police saw smoke coming from the roof on their arrival, and damage was far more extensive than the first fire, he said.
No injuries were reported. Demick said he did not know if the owners were displaced because of the blazes.
Both homes have Plainfield addresses but are technically within the city boundaries of Joliet. The Arbor Gate home is right off Drauden Road and south of Caton Farm. Stonebridge Drive home is north of Caton Farm, and closer to Line Road.
