Lawyer For Plainfield Teen Jailed on Sex Charge Wants Info on Alleged Victim

The teen assaulted a 12-year-old boy repeatedly over the course of a year, police said.

The lawyer for a teen charged with sexually abusing a boy for a year is looking for more information on the alleged victim.

Attorney Neil Patel had already sent a subpoena to the Plainfield school district, but the district did not provide the information he wanted.

Patel represents Jason Minger, a 19-year-old from unincorporated Plainfield who was arrested on charges of predatory criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse in May.

The Joliet police took Minger into custody after investigating claims he had repeatedly assaulted a 12-year-old boy over the course of a year.

In court Thursday, Patel said Minger's alleged victim "made an outcry of sexual abuse" while riding on a school bus. The bus driver went on to report what she heard the boy say, Patel said.

The school district responded to Patel's subpoena by sending the 12-year-old's disciplinary records. Patel said he was not after disciplinary records and was going to contact the bus driver and bus company to get what he is looking for.

Minger has been held at the county jail since his arrest. His bond was set at $250,000.

Judge Sarah Jones scheduled a Feb. 27 date for another pretrial hearing.
