Man Arrested for Stabbing Wife in the Throat in Violent Home Altercation

Julio Rubio is also accused of using the knife handle to knock out his wife's teeth and then fleeing when sheriff's deputies attempted to arrest him.

A Will County man who stabbed his wife in the throat and knocked out her teeth has been charged with aggravated domestic battery.

Julio A. Rubio, 36, of 21440 Franklin Circle, attacked his 35-year-old wife in their unincorporated at about 5 a.m. Tuesday, Will County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said.

The wife, whose name was not released, was taken to Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital before being transported in serious condition to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.

"Mr. Rubio was very agitated and unfocused, and when one of our deputies approached him, he took off running," Hoffmeyer said.

They caught up with him at a house down the street where Rubio put his arms around a support column, she said. As they attempted to pull him away from it, the column gave way and collapsed, she said.

Rubio may have been under the influence of a controlled substance, which might explain his combative and erratic behavior, Hoffmeyer said. He was transported to Bolingbrook Hospital before being taken to the Will County jail, where he is currently being held without bond.

Deputies were able to talk to Rubio's wife, who told them she was watching television when her husband made his "unprovoked" attack, Hoffmeyer said. The woman fled to a neighbor's home, and he called the police.

In addition to aggravated domestic battery, Rubio has also been charged with resisting/obstructing a peace officer and criminal damage to property.
