Man Attacked Mother in Spat Over Spilled Soda, Broken Phone: Cops

A family argument allegedly led to an arrest for a 30-year-old man on Sunday.

A man faces a felony aggravated battery charge after allegedly injuring his mother during an argument on Sunday.

Nicholas Caruso, 30, of the 6300 block of Black Hill Ridge, Plainfield, was arrested after Joliet police responded to a report of a domestic incident at the home Sunday evening.

Cmdr. Al Roechner said Caruso's fiancee told police that he became upset during an argument and threw a can of soda into the sink.

Police said that made Caruso's mother angry.

"She started yelling at him," Roechner said, adding that she then took his phone and threw it, breaking it.

Caruso is accused of grabbing his mother by the neck and throwing her to the floor. Police said the mother, 49, was momentarily dazed following the incident and had redness on her throat. She was taken to Presence St. Joseph Medical Center for minor injuries, Roechner said.

Caruso was arrested and booked into the Will County jail on a charge of aggravated domestic battery, according to jail records. He was due in court Monday afternoon.
